Sharon Castro, MS, BS

Sharon Castro is a highly accomplished leader in quality compliance, with over 20 years of experience in managed care quality, NCQA accreditation, and regulatory compliance at national firms.  

Her expertise has led her to serve as an NCQA surveyor since 2013, where she conducts surveys for health plan accreditation, credentialing verification organizations, utilization management, multicultural healthcare distinction, health equity, and wellness & health promotion organizations. In December 2024, Sharon joined Managed Healthcare Resources (MHR) as an independent Healthcare Consultant.

During her tenure at CIGNA, Molina Healthcare, Magellan Complete Care, Prominence Health Plan, and Kaiser Permanente, Sharon held several key positions, including Director of Quality Compliance, Corporate Quality Director for Accreditation, Quality Improvement Director, and Regional Accreditation Manager. 

Sharon has extensive experience across all lines of business, including Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid. In her various roles, she audited organizational procedures against established standards and regulations and consulted with 13 state plans, ensuring compliance with NCQA and CMS requirements while achieving organizational goals.

As an NCQA surveyor, Sharon reviews documented processes, files, reports, and materials from organizations. She develops comprehensive reports detailing her findings and recommendations for improvement.

Currently, Sharon works as an independent consultant with MHR, assisting firms in preparing for NCQA Accreditation in Health Plans, Health Equity, Utilization Management, and Credentialing. Her skills in project management, statistical analysis, and change management are invaluable to MHR clients as she provides insights and recommendations.

Sharon holds a Master of Science in Public Health/Health Education and Promotion from Walden University in Minnesota, a Master of Science in Project Management/Information Technology from Colorado Technical University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems from the University of Phoenix.

Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, Sharon resides in Orlando. In her free time, she enjoys visiting theme parks, spending time with her sons and grandchildren, and having fun with her friends.
